The Kim Usery Foundation was established in honor of Kim Usery’s memory. Kim saw the hand of God at work all around her and she was daily a willing participant in that work. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
Ongoing Involvement of the Foundation
God led Kim to have a passion and heart for several areas. The foundation’s mission seeks to continue those through others and select organizations. Here are examples of those 501(c)(3) organizations that the Kim Usery Foundation supports.
Companion Canines for Veterans
The Kim Usery Foundation is happy to be a sponsor for K9s For Warriors. K9s For Warriors is dedicated to providing service canines to our warriors suffering from post-traumatic stress and/or traumatic brain injury as a result of military service post 9/11. It was Kim’s heart to see that returning veterans received the much needed love of a companion pet trained to assist them and their families. The Foundation joins their goal to give a new leash on life to rescue dogs and military heroes, empowering warriors to return to civilian life with dignity and independence.
Family and Children Care
We know the children of our community are our future and Kim’s work life reflected her desire to make a difference in her role as a youth development coordinator in organized programs to promote healthy living and social responsibility. For those youth who have challenged authority and are in conflict with family, school or both need the work of such institution as The Family Farm Ministries and their Camp Consequence.
The Humane Treatment of Animals
In order for military personnel returning with disabilities, both physical and otherwise, to have pet therapy as an aid to recovery the foundation supports successful programs such as Foster Military Pets Program. This offers yet another way for our veterans to be assisted. Kim’s personal experience with pet therapy for the elderly and shut-ins evolved to also include helping with those who find homes for pets over euthanizing, especially programs for military and other service dog related projects.
Feeding the Hungry
Kim’s calling to serve on short mission trips and to have others see the need and reward for doing the same is a mission of the foundation. The Kim Usery Foundation provides needed scholarship dollars for mission participant and team needs to remote villages in throughout the world. Not only supplying food but teaching how to raise food, maintain sanitary drinking water and promoting good health is an ongoing effort there and in many parts of the world.
A much needed area in need of help has been made abundantly clear in recent years with tragedies impacting citizens of all ages. Organizations that reach out to provide much needed mental health assistance especially those that promote early childhood evaluation and detection will continue to an area of focus for the Kim Usery Foundation. There are a variety of short and long term youth programs provided through established and well-know organizations that professionally work to address these issues.
