Shannon Lewis Shares of Her Work with Orphans in Liberia

A Letter from Shannon Lewis…

I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you again for helping support my trip to Liberia, Africa. It was truly an inspiring and life changing experience. Over 30,000 children have been orphaned in Liberia due to civil war and disease.

The orphanage in Balama, supported by Orphan Aid Liberia, houses approximately 125 of those children with ages ranging from 3 to 18. I was amazed at how happy and loving the children are despite their impoverished conditions.

Our team of 15 spent time there playing and interacting with the children, working on the construction of latrines, distributing donated glasses in our vision clinic and generally sharing the love of God and being loved in return.

I’m sure our team would agree that we received far greater blessings than we gave. Ongoing projects at the orphanage include deworming and malaria medication distribution, continued construction, assembly of donated playground equipment, education, and spiritual, physical, and emotional support of the children. The need is great, but with God’s help, we can make a difference. Thank you again for being such a vital part of this important ministry.
